An explosion at the Juaben Oil Mills in the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of three persons including two students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The incident which happened on Tuesday also got several others injured.
Authorities say the explosion occurred as the following as a result of “a mechanical failure” in one of the facility’s boilers.
The Supply Chain Manager, Nana Yaw Serebour, said, “This resulted in the steam coming out to engulf people who were working beneath.”
All three were pronounced dead Wednesday morning 6th Oct 2021, leaving nine who sustained various degrees of injuries on admission.
Four individuals are in a critical condition and have been sent to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The Juaben District Commander, DSP Broni Honnu who confirmed the incident in an interview with press said “The bodies have been sent to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Two students of the KNUST were involved [in the incident]. They were both on an industrial attachment.”
